Now, this can be used in relation to this discussion - children left to play will develop, they will see issues and problems that need to be solved. Whether those problems occur consistently enough to ingrain solutions is dependant on the the environment.
I doubt if world class performers could be created from this method but a good standard would be achieved. We could be world beaters if we played holland on the corner of 3 streets, played on a diagonal rhombus shaped pitch with one 2.5m wide goal and one 1.7m wide goal.
It's not however going to do any harm to let kids play at their own leisure until they get to 12-14 age group when they start formalised coaching...hang on, isn't that what most of the rest of the world do?
