Does a player have to be signed up/registered to play a friendly?

I thought anyone could play, registered or not, but my eldest daughter was informed recently that she would have to be signed up to play a friendly.

Not usually.

The players are free agents and can play for anybody after June/July 1st,I think.

In the childrens/youth game as far as I am aware and I stand corrected you are a freer agent from your last League game untill you sign on for your next game - once signed on you can complete a transfer request

Friendlies don't come under any regulation any time of year so play for who you like

Go with jmc on this one
On a slightly different tangent : one of my team hadn't made a decision wether they were going to sign for us for the next season, when i informed our head honch I was told if they didn't sign by 1st Aug then they couldn't train cause the clubs liability wouldn't cover them .Is this the case?

Err maybe in perverse sort of way

If they are and "authorised" player then they are covered I.e. Playing under authority of the Club.... You might have issues if the Club policy is no but you still allow them to play

If it is a friendly that isnt organised by a competition, for example all the u8 fixtures my son will play this seasaon will be organised friendlys that are played in accordance with that leagues rules so all players have to registered.

But generally speaking the answer would be that they do not need to be signed on. How many kids play in tournaments for teams they are not registered for......loads......either this coach doesnt know the rules or they are trying to pull a fast one.

The rules on ages in the handbook do not seem to apply to friendlies,

To play in a KO Cup game or a game where points are awarded, or results collected, a
player must have achieved the age of 8 on or before 31st August.

The book then goes on to cover the dates for each age range, continually mentioning "the playing season"

So both Footydad and MA - there is no reason why they cant play - just be prepared for the other team to have a couple of Academy players, just trying out..........

If he's younger than the age group playing I would say yes myself but if he's older than the age group then it would be an agreement between the 2 coaches,IMO.
