ok footies - just in case we are at incorrect technical information land

in my head if you are a floating player you are outside the game ,running up and down the "touchlines" as an outlet for a player -to me this is pointless because if you need an"outside man " to pass to -your other players have not moved for you or you have panicked on the ball .

if you are on the pitch inside the touchlines and you play for whichever team is in possession you are a NEUTRAL player .-and yes you can create an overload but you have not got one in the game ,so again it comes down to players not moving .

If I wanted to work on a midfielder and wanted them to have lots of touches etc when in possession -I would condition the game ,get them moving -something like I want every third pass into jaysav ,this will give an attacking and defensive role to the midfielder ,he has to focus ,the players have to focus and just as he is through on goal I will say "stop stand still "

So to be a devil  -if I was assessing for level 2 -I can only have 10 outfield players on the pitch ,and what I start with I have to finish with ,so you have "floating/neutral players " around the outside and have to use them -pass out to them they pass back into the team they received from usually ...

So what if I take 20 at the start cos I want to and it is my session you know -creative ,innovative ,and then for the ssg have my 10 outfield players and then have 10 floating players around the pitch -5 each side -???
take your passion ,and make it happen .

Angela,my idea of floating players is players who play on the pitch and in the game and not around the outside.

The target players are the players who are at opposite ends of the pitch and you have to pass into to score.

Just wanted to resurrect this topic.

I have been reviewing some of the training plans, including the follow up notes, I have used earlier this year and come to the conclusion that they can if they are not age appropriate and game realistic for the age group, especially at the younger ages when all they want to be doing is playing a "real" match :D .

I will give an example with the End line game. Some of the new players (U7/U8) got confused by this game. Its a simple game right? But I believe the way I had it set up was causing the problem!

I had set the games up in the 4 corner areas of the magic rectangle, effectively asking one team in each game to dribble over the goal line, but they know when the ball goes over that line its a corner, not a goal - even at their age!

Would they have understood the game better if they had played it in the middle 3 areas of the rectangle and I explained to them that they where playing as midfielders and they had to get the ball into the attacking area of the pitch?

Would they understand the 4 goal game better if I did the same, after all you dont shoot into goals in the corner of the pitch in the "real" game. But if those goals where in the middle areas as well and as before the players where midfielders making a great pass through the gaps for their teammate to get a shot a goal, would they get it? Would that in turn help them understand the playing positions quicker? Only one way to find out!

For those of you not fimilar with the magic rectangle take a look here http://www.kinggeorgefc.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=74:magic-rectangle&catid and have a chat with Coops if you want to know more

use floaters regularly no problems. use outside players the third team, asked the 2 teams to organise themselves and stopped the game after 5 mins , asked what their game plan was , one team said it was to get the ball to outside players as that is where the space is, asked what do they do match days , reply get the ball wide to players in space, thats why 433 is good as you have a good dispersal of players.
u7/8 never has a problem with line ball or 4 goal game , argentina game even works.
